Ground Team Member 3 Pre-Qualifications Steps

The pre-requisites for Ground Team Member 3 are primarily done outside of the squadron and online. There are six tasks in total. Having already set up your eServices account will be helpful before you start, so if you haven’t already done that, then download the guide and do that first. The tasks can be done in any order, and can be done simultaneously.
GTM3 Pre-Qualification Tasks:
  • Task 1: Set up a FEMA Student ID number on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s website at https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/register.
  • Task 2: Complete FEMA Course IS-100. This course orients responders to the Incident Command System which is the command and control system used by responders in an emergency.
    • The class is taken online here: https://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=IS-100.b.
    • Note that this course happens outside of CAP so we don’t have control over it; it is entirely operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
    • You will need your FEMA Student ID that you set up in Step 1 to take this course.
    • Upon successful completion, email your certificate to Maj Zimmerman. The squadron will upload it to eServices for you.
    • Expect this course to take 45 minutes – 2 hours depending on your knowledge and speed.
  • Task 3: Complete FEMA Course IS-700. This is a FEMA course that orients responders to the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
  • Task 4: Assemble the beginnings of a 24/72 hour pack:

    • Safety vests can be purchased locally or online
    • Flagging tape: Located at Home Depot by the hand tools (or Amazon)
    • Work Gloves: Any work gloves will work.. hard shell nylon, kevlar, leather, etc
    • Canteens: The squadron has pistol belts and canteens for issue. Hydration systems such as Camelbaks, etc are also acceptable.
    • The squadron has sleeping pads for issue. You won’t need a sleeping bag all the time, but you should have access to one that you can easily grab if you are called upon.
    • “Meal replacements” can be accomplished by nutrient-rich bars such as KIND bars, Clif bars, etc.
    • The tent is not something you need to permanently assign to the gear, but you should have access to a tent that you can easily grab and take with you if you are called upon. Make sure the tent is complete and functional. It also should be light and easy to carry. A one or two person tent is better than a five person tent.
  • Task 5 ICUT (Introductory Communications User Training): This training has two components:
