On November 10 the La Crosse Composite Squadron presented an informational session to emergency management professionals from around western Wisconsin including county sheriffs, local fire departments, and county emergency managers. The session highlighted Civil Air Patrol’s capabilities and how CAP can help during emergencies such as missing person searche, finding overdue aircraft, and disaster assessment. After the presentation the attendees had a chance to ask questions of squadron emergency services personnel and received informational packets including information on how to request CAP’s services in the event of an emergency.
During the presentation, squadron staff emphasized the need for experienced, well-trained, and cost effective resources which the Civil Air Patrol can provide. Many of the participants were not aware of CAP’s capabilities and resources. Shortly after the informational seminar the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, who had attended the seminar, requested CAP’s assistance with a ground search. This marked the first time that Jackson County had requested CAP assistance in recent memory.
